Wu-Yi Tea in Australia
While several varieties of oolong organic tea have been available in several parts of the world, it was impossible to find Wu-Yi tea in Australia. But after its widening popularity as a weight loss tea, you can now purchase Wu-Yi tea in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, fact that has weight loss gurus quit excited.
But, you may be asking, what is Wu-Yi tea? Basically, it is a form of oolong found in the mountainous regions of China, growing in the crevices to the rocky mountain side. While being a fairly average health tea, it has been theorized to hold several added properties in the tea extract that enhances weight loss when added to a diet and exercise regime.
While its antioxidants are no different then those found in most green teas, it's really the taste and strength that makes Wu-Yi different. With a smooth, rich flavor that has a subtly sweet edge; it has long since been enjoyed as an alternative to other drinks that are thought to curb hunger, like sodas and coffee. It is also all natural, so you don't have to worry about the dangerous effects of caffeine or other chemicals.
It's a bit more expensive then the usual bulk tea, and costs around $10 US per 8 oz, significantly higher then other oolong teas, and often thought by many not to be worth it. But what makes it different, and possibly a higher value, is the fact that is can be re-steeped several times, each time creating a slightly different flavor and texture then it had before. This is likely due to the added strength of the plant itself, a natural defense against the harsh conditions of its place of origin.
The tea bag variety is now available for purchase at various stores around Australia, which will save you the added shipping costs it required before to have it transported across the ocean, though not all varieties are being commonly sold. For instance, the loose tea is still harder to find, and much more expensive, and the capsules that can be taken for weight loss are only sold in the US, and cost quite a lot to ship. But with any luck demand will change this, and Australian health manufacturers will begin creating their own form of Wu-Yi capsules soon.
